Hair pulling, face slapping, fake body parts, and boyfriend stealing. “Reality” T.V. today would have the world convinced that women and girls are incapable of supporting each other and having a fun without a fight.
Once again, our Oracle girls have proven everyone of these stereotypes wrong. On Saturday, October 15, 2016, 12 girl leaders joined Day of the Girl Buffalo Ambassador and Zandra Beauty She-EO (CEO) and teenpreneur, Zandra Cunningham for the Day of the Girl Celebration.
The Buffalo Science Museum was “lit” that day! Day of the Girl Buffalo was a girl-power filled day that began with awards to local girls who make an impact in their schools and community and musical performances by local girl groups including SUNY Buffalo’s all girl a cappella group. After the opening ceremony, girls from all over Western New York were lead by Oracle students to various breakout sessions like Egyptian Dance, jewelry making, STEM workshops, financial literacy… OH and manicures and massages from the Fabu-Bus! Later, Oracle students served lunch that included a sweet treat (cupcakes!) from girl boss and owner of Cake Crazy, Shetice Williams.
Oracle girls worked! But hard work came with rewards. All the volunteers received swag bags loaded with Zandra Beauty goodies and other girly treats. Although there was a bunch of fun and even more selfies, the cause was serious business. The International Day of the Girl is to bring attention to inequality in girls education around the world and to promote and celebrate girls going as far in their education as they desire. Oracle Charter School is a proud sponsor of Day of the Girl Buffalo and our future girl bosses cannot wait until next year!
