A college preparatory, public charter school, Oracle is excited to announce that we have been afforded the opportunity to partner with The College Simulation Experience, by way of a grant TCSE was awarded in Fall 2016 from the Young Black Philanthropist Foundation. The partnership will allow students to participate in 12 weeks of programming with The College Simulation Experience.
“The College Simulation Experience (TCSE) uses arts-based experiential approaches to teaching underserved students valuable social and emotional skills that will help them succeed in higher education.” The simulation – is an interactive, 3-hour “game” that addresses the development of soft skills needed to help keep kids in college once they get there (ie navigating financial aid, conflicts with roommates, scheduling, financial aid and more). This is a critical time for our kids to learn these skills given the availability of free education with the Say YES to Education program. We know that they can get into college, and affordability is no longer an issue -now let’s help keep them there.
Tuesday, February 7th Ms. Young and Ms. Thompson along with other faculty members orchestrated the first session to 30 of Oracle junior students. Students were selected by faculty and staff to participate. Students ranged from students who are currently excelling academically to students who need a little extra motivation to stay focused on the track towards college success.
The College Simulation Experience is offered to Oracle Charter School weekly, in hopes of reframing the college inexperience through hands-on, interactive learning intended to develop the skills needed to be successful.
