What is Tech Savvy?
Tech Savvy is designed to encourage girls to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers by a fun, illuminating day of activities.  Studies show that after middle school, girls often become disinterested in science and math courses.  High-school girls tend to enroll in science courses at lower levels than their male counterparts.  Tech Savvy is presented  and sponsored by the American Association of University Women Buffalo Branch, Inc.    Major support for Tech Savvy is provided by the Praxair Foundation.  UB’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and WTS, Inc are  also co-sponsors of TS7.

About Tech Savvy… for Middle School Girls:
So who are you? The middle school girl who cares about her world and wants to do “good” things.

Do you think math and science are, well, a little boring?  Who wants to spend time in a lab when you could be out there-- helping people, saving the environment, saving the world?

Well, Tech Savvy 7 is just for you-- because this year, Tech Savvy is a really GOOD thing!

Tech Savvy girls can do anything!  And, science, technology, engineering, and math are great tools to help you do great, fantastic GOOD things-- and to do them very well.

This year at TS7, Tech Savvy girls will have the chance to explore some fabulous career possibilities with some extraordinary workshop leaders … and they will have some fun.

SAVVY SKILLS WORKSHOPS:  Look forward to floating like butterflies to your purpose!  Your afternoon workshops will help you build skills that will take you into college and through life.

Tech Savvy for Adults
Tech Savvy is not just for kids!  A full session of activities is scheduled for parents and other adults in the lives of girls!  Please join us for workshops and engaging discussion.  It is a day’s investment that will reap dividends in your child’s future!
Opening this year’s session will be Lisa Maatz, AAUW’s national Public Policy Director.  Seven is the lucky number this year, and Lisa will start the “seven” theme with some practical insights that will help you support your daughters.

Another highlight this year is the Special Panel Presentation, where AAUW’s Why So Few research report highlights important findings about barriers for girls in STEM and proactive ways to address.  This research “comes to life” as you hear from a special panel, with expertise in education, industry, and UB’s School of Engineering.

There is very special addition to this year’s program, a “meet the author session” with Diann Jordan, author of Sisters in Science.  You'll enjoy this conversation on how women can add a very distinctively good aspect to STEM careers.  Read more about Dr. Jordan here.

And you’ll hear even more “7”s as we provide you with valuable information on bullying, financial aid, and academic preparedness.

Glad I came… Now I think of science and math differently.
I might come here for college.
Feel more empowered like I can do anything…
This really helps girls to understand.  Thanks (AAUW) for understanding us.
I liked it so much & I think people can learn from this.
I did not know that much, and I discovered that women should be… because we have so much we can do.

This is my second year… Wish this was open to 15-18 year olds.
Didn’t want to come, now I want to come back
It was perfect.
